The "miracle" of teaching is "…dedication, common-sense, determination, and a love for our students."

Many learning centers using a "prescriptive" approach generally use materials from the same
publishers that supply classroom teachers.  These are developed for group use, have set goals based
on grade-level objectives, and use methods that have (obviously) not produced the desired results for
the struggling student.

Teaching Credential and Tutor Certification:

A teaching credential is designed to make you a great teacher, but not necessarily a great tutor. There
are some profound differences between teaching and tutoring, and tutor certification is the only way to
master the art of tutoring.

Various tutor certifying organizations with a concentration on the art of "tutoring" (one-to-one and small
group instruction vs. classroom teaching) offer training and certification to tutors.  These are usually
general and not subject specific.

The College Reading and Learning Association is an accrediting agency for college courses in tutoring.
It does not offer tutor training, but regulates accredited tutor training programs.

Finally, many learning centers have their own training and certification requirements.

by the state government.
Private associations and organizations
also offer certificates of completion of their
teacher training program, such as the
various Montessori associations and
organizations.
The
ABCTE Passport to Teaching is a
nationally recognized teacher certification.
Teacher training does not include
the foundational skills necessary  to
teach explicit phonics directly.  See
