Tutoring Therapy

Diagnostic Testing helps to determine specific learning strengths and weaknesses and is used to determine the therapy or training a student is in need of. Academic Assessments are used for placement, offering a good picture of what a student already knows and what he or she still needs to learn. Assessments are also a tool used during an educational program so that the student's progress can be continually monitored and the program altered as needed. A variety of assessments may also be used as part of Diagnostic Testing and Evaluations. Educational Evaluations are used similar to assessments but are usually used at the end of a program to evaluate the success of the program in meeting the student's needs. End of year Evaluations are available for homeschoolers. General Evaluations may also be used at the beginning a an academic program to assist in goal setting.
Dyslexia is the most common reason a child with at least average intelligence will struggle with spelling, reading, or writing. Dyslexia affects 20% of people in the United States—some mildly, others severely. If a student is struggling with spelling, writing, and/or reading, and has 3 or more of the warning signs of dyslexia, it’s highly likely their struggles are due to dyslexia.
Enrichment programs are offered for average and above average achievers who would benefit from academic practice and challenge. Students that are behind in specific study areas can use the same tutoring to catch up in school. Test Preparation classes are offered to give students a better chance at achieving competitive scores on college entrance exams, SAT and ACT tests. Students can also prepare for the FCAT with a tutor. Our test prep program has 4 areas of study: math, vocabulary, grammar and essay writing, and test taking strategies. Study skills can be taught and practiced through one-to-one tutoring or small class instruction. Textbook reading, note taking, and organizing ideas are some of the skills taught in our classes.

Research has found that as many as 1 in 5 students is dyslexic. Dyslexia is a general term and affects people in different degrees. Many students that have been diagnosed with a learning disability have a serious case of dyslexia, while others, having a milder case, go through school without the help they need and are often thought to be "lazy" or "unmotivated." Dyslexia is a different way of learning, and most people who suffer from dyslexia are of superior intelligence and yet struggle through school because of their trouble with reading and spelling. It is often a relief to students and parents when they find out that their child is not "stupid" but dyslexic.
